The FIP Hub | An engine room for the advancement of Pharmacy Worldwide

Advancing Practice, Advancing Workforce, Advancing Science

FIP’s Workforce Development Hub (WDH) was established after the Nanjing Conference in 2016. Since then, the original 13 Workforce Development Goals have been transformed into 21 FIP Development Goals covering the principal areas for advancement of the profession worldwide.

The new ONE-FIP Hub completes the mission of transforming the global pharmaceutical workforce to meet the current health needs of societies and to ensure FIP continues to meet its commitment to the Astana Declaration (2018). The Hub provides a focal point for project work and activity to support progress of the workforce, education, practice and scientific elements of the FIP Development Goals, and to foster the wider mission of FIP and its constituencies.

The ONE FIP Hub brings together experts to undertake projects to generate intelligence and provide evidence-based resources and tools to inform and support global goals development. In association with the membership outreach across the whole of FIP, the Hub will provide a wide scope of access for project work and a collaborative Hub of FIP experts and collaborators.

The Hub’s activities extend across three key work programmes:

  1. Global Pharmaceutical Development Goals: monitoring, progressing, enabling;

  2. Pharmaceutical intelligence through the Global Pharmaceutical Observatory (GPO): Data capture and reporting; analysis and informing;

  3. Co-creating education, workforce and practice-led research, policy and ideas generation.

Operating principles

For collaborative projects, the Hub will draw on the following strategic principles in order to pursue its remit:

  • Expand the global evidence base on pharmaceutical education, workforce and practice;

  • Facilitate the needs-based, country-level implementation of FIP tools and global resources.

  • Increase stakeholder engagement, knowledge exchange and partnership building;

  • Monitor progress and evaluate impact and implementation of the FIP Development Goals.

Hub projects are designed to gain a better understanding of the global landscape, innovations, and new methods and tools in specific and priority-driven areas of healthcare need. Hub experts work with wider forums and expert groups to implement their work plan through literature reviews, case-study development, policy analyses, and quantitative and qualitative research, in order to develop evidence-based frameworks and guidance, and to inform policy and practice development. The reports and tools are tested, validated and shared with the FIP’s global community of practice to be used and implemented.
