Global Academic Leadership Fellows Programme (GALFP)

FIP together with the AACP (the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) launched the Global Academic Leadership Fellows Programme (GALFP) in February 2020. GALFP, a two-year programme that includes live meetings, has been postponed to 2021 in response to COVID-19 related challenges.

Enhancing academic leadership horizons in trying times

In 2020, FIP (the International Pharmaceutical Federation) together with the AACP (the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) developed the “Enhancing academic leadership horizons in trying times” course in response to COVID-19 related challenges at pharmacy schools. This course is a special online edition of GALFP and the course programme has been created for academic pharmacists who aim to enhance their leadership skills while navigating crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Course objectives

Taking account of people’s experiences and learnings gained during the pandemic, the course programme has been updated
and enriched with new learning content to support participants as they:

• Explore necessary leadership skills, methods and styles in a pandemic or crisis;
• Identify strategic leadership plans to navigate COVID-19 challenges;
• Evolve into a digital leader to deliver appropriate technological teaching and learning methods; and
• Design pharmacy education for today and tomorrow in the light of a crisis.

Why you should attend

“The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly highlighted the essential role of pharmacists. FIP and our partners must ensure all pharmacy leaders unite and rise to the challenge. With this programme, delivered jointly with our member AACP, we will support current and aspiring academic pharmacy leaders to navigate pandemic responses successfully at their institutions and countries.” —  Catherine Duggan, FIP Chief Executive Officer

“One clear leadership lesson from this pandemic experience is that collaboration is essential to our success. This is true for individuals as well as their organisations and this programme is an excellent example of this.” — Lucinda Maine, AACP Executive Vice President and CEO

 “The course includes modules on the impact of COVID-19 on pharmacy education and the needs created during this pandemic, the growing importance of digital health and digital leadership, and what does the future holds in terms of education in general and pharmacy education in particular. This 4-module series is a great opportunity for seasoned and emergent academic leaders to reflect on what we all lived during the past months and likely to experience for several months/years ahead. We invite you to register to this one-of-a-kind leadership program and continue your journey towards outstanding academic leadership.” — Pierre Moreau, FIP AIM Chair.

“I completed the course and received my certificate, but still return to it and watch some of the presentations again. Each time, I find a new perspective and enriching information on navigating a crisis successfully.” — Dalal Al-Taweel, Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kuwait University, Kuwait.
